A German tourist was killed after he was hit by a wild elephant in southern India.

Mickel Jurcen, 77, died from injuries after being taken to the hospital for treatment.

Videos of the attack Tuesday in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu state have been widely shared on social media.

Jurcen, riding a motorcycle, was seen being attacked by the elephant while traveling on a road inside the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.

Despite several warnings from others on the road, he continued, prompting the elephant to charge and throw him off the road.

After falling, Jurcen attempted to approach the elephant again, but the animal pushed him to the ground, causing severe injuries.
