Warehouse explosion rocks China's Tianjin
Two months after massive blasts killed over 170 people, city hit by another explosion and fire at a chemical warehouse
BEIJING
A massive explosion and fire broke out in the port city of Tianjin in northern China overnight, just two months after blasts killed more than 170 people there.
State news agency Xinhua reported late Monday that the fire broke out at 9.45 p.m. (1345GMT) in the Beichen district of Tianjin.
The agency said although photos posted online showed flames and black thick smoke rising from the ground, no casualties were reported.
Authorities said that firemen were able to extinguish the blaze -- started by a chemical leak -- in five hours.
On Aug. 12, two massive explosions rocked the port of Tianjin, leaving many firefighters among the dead.
The blasts at a warehouse damaged two nearby residential compounds and scorched more than 3,000 new vehicles in a parking area.
