Superintelligence to dominate discussion with China’s Xi: Trump

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that “superintelligence,” his term for artificial intelligence, is set to dominate his discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“A big day with President Xi of China. Super Intelligence (SI) will be a big topic of discussion, but I want to leave it exactly where it is. That is China’s position also,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform ahead of the meeting of the two leaders in Washington, DC on Thursday.

The US president proposed renaming artificial intelligence “superintelligence” during the UN General Assembly this week.

Artificial intelligence, trade, rare earth minerals and wider geopolitical tensions are likely to be discussed during the meeting.

Trump personally welcomed Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington on Wednesday, marking the first time since 1962 that any US leader had received a foreign leader on the base tarmac.

“I met President Xi at the plane (Airport!) yesterday and he looks strong, vibrant, and fit - Better than ever. Madam Xi, of course, BEAUTIFUL!,” Trump wrote in a separate post on Thursday.

On Thursday, Trump is scheduled to host Xi at the White House for an official welcome and military review before the two leaders hold closed-door, one-on-one and delegation-level talks.

The day will end with a state dinner hosted by Trump and first lady Melania Trump for Xi and Peng.

Several leading US technology and business figures, including SpaceX chief Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Apple CEO Tim Cook and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, are expected to attend the dinner.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet again on Friday before Xi departs Washington.
