Philippines: Duterte’s allies win senate polls

Allies of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte have won midterm senate elections held earlier this month, local media reported.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), the electoral body in the country, declared 12 winners of senate elections, daily Manila Bulletin said in a report.

The midterm elections for half of the 24-member senate seats were held on May 13 in which more than 60 millions Filipinos were eligible to vote.

“Not a single member of the opposition Otso Diretso senatorial ticket, on the other hand, won in the polls,” the daily said.

Besides, around 43,000 candidates ran for some 18,000 government posts.
