ANKARA

North Korea has amended its constitutions in the recent parliamentary meeting without disclosing the details about new amendments.

At the 11th session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) Monday and Tuesday in Pyongyang, the parliament unanimously passed the amendments, state-run Korean Central News Agency reported.

"The session adopted with unanimous approval the Law of the SPA of the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea ) on amending and supplementing some contents of the Socialist Constitution of the DPRK," it said without explaining the amendments.

In January this year, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sought changes in the country’s constitution to redefine relations with South Korea.

Kim made the proposal during an address to North Korea’s Supreme People's Assembly and said they cannot go along the road of national restoration and reunification together with South Korea.

He also urged to redefine South Korea as a “primary foe and invariable principal enemy.”

According to the South Korean Yonhap News Agency, Kim didn't attend this week's SPA session.

Last year, North Korea also abandoned a 2018 inter-Korean agreement to reduce tensions, restoring all military activities halted under the deal.

The 2018 agreement created buffer zones along land and sea boundaries and no-fly zones above the border.

Meanwhile, North Korea also replaced its defense minister and appointed No Kwang Chol as the new minister.
