Myanmar reports first COVID-19 case in armed forces

YANGON, Myanmar

A soldier in Myanmar tested positive for the coronavirus, the military said on Monday, the first confirmed case in the ranks of armed forces in the country.

The office of military chief announced the soldier has been quarantined at a military hospital in Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw since May 1.

The office said the soldier is in stable condition in the hospital designated for COVID-19 patients.

It added that five military officers, who are currently undergoing a military training in Russia’s capital Moscow, also tested positive for the disease.


Myanmar on Monday reported that six more patients tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total cases to 161.


It added that six patients have so far died from the coronavirus, while 43 have recovered.
