Magnitude-5.8 earthquake jolts Japan
Quake occurs at depth of 60 kilometers with epicenter on Tori-shima Island

TOKYO, Japan
A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Japan early Thursday, the country's meteorological agency reported.
The epicenter of the quake was on the deserted Tori-shima Island, located in the southeast of the country, and took place 60 kilometers (37 miles) below the surface.
The agency did not issue a tsunami alert.
