Magnitude 5.4 earthquake strikes Peru
Earthquake, with its epicenter in town of Huaral, occurs at depth of 35 miles, says Geophysical Institute of Peru

BOGOTA, Colombia
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck central Peru, the Geophysical Institute of Peru said Thursday.
The institute said the quake, whose epicenter was in the town of Huaral, occurred at a depth of 57 kilometers (35 miles).
Authorities said no casualties or material damage have been reported.
Peru, one of the countries with the highest seismic movements in the world, is located in the Pacific Earthquake Zone, also known as the "Ring of Fire.”
At least 595 people in Peru lost their lives in a 7.9 magnitude earthquake on Aug. 15, 2007.
