Japan and Iran qualified for the 2023 Asian Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Four-time champions Japan beat Bahrain 3-1 in a Round of 16 match. Ritsu Doan, Takefusa Kubo and Ayase Ueda scored for the Samurai Blue at Doha's Al Thumama Stadium.

In the last 16, Iran defeated Syria 5-3 on penalties after regular time and extra time was 1-1 in Doha.

In the last eight, Japan will face Iran on Saturday.

The Asian Cup quarterfinals will begin Friday with a match between Tajikistan and Jordan.

On the same day, the Asian Cup will see a Australia vs. South Korea showdown at Qatar's Al Wakrah Stadium.
