JAKARTA

The Indonesian military has found the wreckage of an army helicopter which went missing eight months ago in Papua province with 12 people on board.

The wreckage was spotted at a hill located on Mount Mandala in Oksop region during a flight on Monday, said Maj. Gen. Herman Asaribab, who oversees the regional military command, according to local daily The Star.

The helicopter took off from the Oksibil Airport in the country's easternmost province of Papua on June 28 and shortly lost communication with the air traffic control.

Officials said the search for the victims -- including 60 military personnel -- of the air crash is ongoing.
