At least 17 people were killed and over 271,000 others affected by the raging floods in Sri Lanka, local media reported on Monday.

The country’s Disaster Management Center said in a statement that 271,110 citizens across 10 districts of the South Asian nation “have been affected as a result of the prevailing adverse weather conditions,” according to daily Ceylon Today.

It also said two others are missing.

The disaster agency said floods killed 10 people while seven others died in massive mudslides.

According to Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, the adverse weather will continue in parts of the country, adding showers and thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts.
