A woman and two children were killed on Friday in flash floods that hit southern Philippines, local authorities said on Saturday.

Maila Pulido, 34, and her 12-year-old daughter Mylene were swept away by floodwaters and drowned on their way home in Lebak municipality, Sultan Kudarat province on Mindanao island, according to the Philstar newspaper.

The local rescue crews were unable to save them despite all efforts.

Separately, eight-year-old Lawrence Itew was swept away by the current while swimming in a river in Kalamansig province.

It was reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Tuesday that massive flooding triggered by days of torrential rains has affected nearly 200,000 people in the southern Maguindanao del Sur province of Mindanao.
