Fire destroys homes, school buildings in central Indonesia
Total of 17 buildings, including two schools, were burned down, officials say
ISTANBUL
A massive fire in central Indonesia has destroyed dozens of buildings, including schools and homes, officials said on Monday.
Preliminary information indicates that a total of 17 buildings, including two schools, were burned down in Central Kalimantan province, according to state-run Antara News.
Authorities said the blaze was caused by an electrical short circuit. The fire spread rapidly, eventually engulfing dozens of nearby structures.
The government is currently seeking alternative locations to ensure students can continue their education after the destruction of the two schools.
Officials also said evacuation shelters and public kitchens are being set up, and clothing is being distributed to those affected by the fire.
