A Thai legal expert says the junta's decision to grant immunity to officials in a former prime minister's malfeasance case shows they are not entirely confident of a prosecution, as they are already protecting officials from any follow up litigation.
The unnamed source told Anadolu Agency on Monday that the junta had exonerated those investigating Yingluck Shinawatra in relation to a loss-ridden rice-subsidies scheme as if the case fails the junta doesn't want the investigating officers themselves prosecuted.
"This decree is judicial cover for the officials in charge of the investigation against Yingluck. They are afraid of being themselves prosecuted if it is considered, at the end, that Yingluck is not responsible," said the source.
