Death toll from avalanche in India's Himalayan state rises to 8
Rescue operation completed in Uttarakhand state, says Indian Army

NEW DELHI
The death toll from Friday's avalanche in India's Himalayan state of Uttarakhand rose to eight on Sunday as authorities completed the operation to rescue the trapped workers, officials said.
A massive search operation was launched in the state’s Chamoli district on Friday, after an avalanche buried over 50 workers from the Border Roads Organization.
The Indian Defense Ministry said Sunday evening that the body of the last missing person had been found.
“The recovery marks the culmination of the Mana village rescue operation,” the ministry said on X.
The Indian army also said the rescued workers have been under medical treatment and are recovering.
