Daily virus cases hit 6-month peak in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan 

Uzbekistan’s daily COVID-19 count spiked to its highest mark in six months on Thursday.

A total of 1,307 virus cases were detected over the past day, raising the country’s overall tally to 209,578, according to Health Ministry data.

Recoveries increased by 734 to reach 201,246, while four more fatalities pushed up the death toll to 1,529.

Some 41 million vaccine shots have been administered in the country to date.

In the country of around 34 million people, more than 19.1 million have been given a first dose, over 14.2 million are fully vaccinated, and some 7.6 million have been given booster shots, according to Health Ministry figures.
