Chinese fishing boat capsized off South Korea, 9 missing
2 of 11 crew members rescued by passing cargo ship
ISTANBUL
Nine people went missing Monday after a Chinese fishing vessel capsized off South Korea’s southwestern coast.
Two of the 11 crew members of the ship were rescued by a passing cargo ship, according to Yonhap News.
The 99-ton vessel overturned around 150 kilometers (93 miles) southwest of Eocheong Island at 8.53 am on Monday (2353GMT Sunday), the Gunsan Coast Guard said.
Seoul dispatched four patrol vessels and helicopters to search for the missing crew.
A Chinese fishing boat also capsized off the southwestern coast of South Korea’s Gageo Island on Sunday, leaving three crew members missing and two others in cardiac arrest. Six of the crew members were rescued.
