Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic held talks in Beijing on Thursday.
Sefcovic said on the US social media platform X that the two sides are “working hard to rebalance EU-China trade,” building on three “intensive” months of engagement.
“It’s crucial that the first phase of our talks under the Trade and Investment Consultations delivers tangible outcomes,” he said.
The EU aims to address its trade deficit with China, which exceeds €1 billion ($1.12 billion) a day, as well as market access and trade restrictions.
The talks will continue through Friday.
