China should expand tech exchanges, coordinate computing power: Premier Li

ISTANBUL

Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday said the country should expand its technology exchanges and coordinate its computing power.

Li made the remarks while chairing a State Council group study session focused on AI development, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency.

He called for a comprehensive push in technological innovation, industrial growth, and the application of AI to foster new productive forces and promote high-quality development.

Li emphasized that China must accurately understand AI development trends to unlock the technology’s full potential.

He urged efforts to map out forward-looking strategies for new technologies, promote large-scale commercial applications, better coordinate key resources — including data, computing power, and electricity — expand international technology exchanges, and strengthen AI governance through improvements to laws, policies, application standards, and ethical guidelines.

Li also highlighted the need to build an open and inclusive environment and cultivate a larger, multi-skilled talent pool.

Zhou Bowen, head of the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, delivered a speech at the session. Vice premiers Ding Xuexiang and Zhang Guoqing, along with State Councilor Wu Zhenglong, also participated in the discussions
