China introduces new K visa to attract young science and tech talent

ISTANBUL

China announced Monday the introduction of a new "K visa" aimed at attracting young talent in the fields of science and technology.

“To promote exchanges and cooperation between young science and technology talents between China and other countries, China decided to add a new type of visa to its ordinary visa categories, namely, K visa,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing.

“For more details about the K visa, I would refer you to the information soon to be released by Chinese embassies and consulates overseas,” Guo added.

According to the state-run Xinhua News, the new visa category will take effect on Wednesday.

The K visa offers greater flexibility compared to the 12 existing standard visa types, including multiple entries, extended validity periods, and longer stays.

On arrival in China, holders of the K visa will be permitted to participate in activities related to education, culture, science and technology, as well as engage in entrepreneurial and business ventures.

Aside from meeting certain criteria regarding age, education, and work experience, applicants for K visas do not need an invitation from a domestic organization or employer, and the application process is expected to be more streamlined.
