China on Wednesday began the procedure to adjust tariffs on imported US products following the two countries' agreement on initial 90-day tariff relief after Geneva talks.

China's Commerce Ministry suspended 17 US companies on the Unreliable Entity List for 90 days beginning Wednesday, said a ministry spokesperson in a statement.

The US companies on the list were previously prohibited from importing and exporting Chinese-related goods, as well as from making new investments in the country.

"To implement the consensus reached at the China-US high-level economic and trade talks, China will suspend the measures announced on April 4 (Unreliable Entity List Working Mechanism [2025] No. 7) for 90 days and will also suspend the measures announced on April 9 (Unreliable Entity List Working Mechanism [2025] No. 8)," according to a ministry spokesperson.

Beijing has also suspended 28 US companies' placement on the Export Control List for dual-use items for the next 90 days.

Exporters who do business with the listed companies will be granted a license if approved, the spokesperson said.

On Tuesday, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of China said that tariff adjustments on imported US products will start from Wednesday at 12.01 pm Beijing time (0401GMT), according to Xinhua News Agency.

China will modify accordingly the application of the additional ad valorem rate of duty on articles of the United States set forth in the Announcement of the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council No. 4 of 2025 by suspending 24 percentage points of that rate for an initial period of 90 days while retaining the remaining additional ad valorem rate of 10% on those articles," said the Customs Tariff Commission.

Beijing also removed the modified additional ad valorem rates of duty on those articles imposed on April 9 and 11.

On Monday, Beijing and Washington said that they have agreed to a sweeping rollback of punitive tariffs for an initial 90-day period following intense weekend negotiations in Geneva.

The talks came after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, prompting Beijing to retaliate with 125% duties on American goods.
