Azerbaijan, Armenia inspect border railway section
Parties exchange views on technical condition of infrastructure along Sadarak-Yeraskh railway section, according to media reports
ISTANBUL
Azerbaijan and Armenia inspected a railway section on the border between the two countries, media reports said Thursday.
Azerbaijani state news agency Azertac reported that representatives from the two South Caucasus neighbors conducted a joint inspection of the railway section between the Armenian village of Yeraskh and the town of Sadarak in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
It said Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers told Azertac that the inspection sought to assess the technical suitability of the Sadarak–Yeraskh railway section for the movement of specialized railway construction equipment.
It noted that it was conducted as part of measures to restore the infrastructure.
“During the inspection, the parties exchanged views on issues related to evaluating the technical condition of the railway infrastructure along the section,” it added.
Armenian state news agency Armenpress published a similar report, citing the Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Ministry.
The reports come two days after a joint statement announced the release of an implementation framework for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) transit project following talks between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington.
The project will link mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan enclave through Armenia, under a declaration signed Aug. 8 at a summit between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and US President Donald Trump.
