At least three policemen were killed and five others injured after a police convoy of the interim Taliban administration was targeted in Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Abdul Matin Qane, spokesman for the interim Interior Ministry, said an explosive device carried on a motorcycle targeted a police convoy in central Faizabad city of northeastern Badakhshan province.

"Police convoy was targeted when they were carrying out an operation against the poppy cultivation," Qane said on X.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Notably, recent days have seen protests against the interim Taliban administration in the Argo and Darayim districts of the province.
