A German aid worker and her Afghan guard have been killed and a Finnish colleague went missing after unknown armed assailants stormed their guesthouse in Kabul’s western neighbourhood late on Saturday, according to the country’s Ministry of Interior.
The ministry said the guesthouse was occupied by the staff of Operation Mercy, a relief and development organisation based in Orebro, Sweden.
“Our investigations into the incident are underway, we cannot rule out kidnapping”, Najib Danish, spokesman for the ministry, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday.
A third foreigner has been rescued, Danish added.
There have been no immediate claims of responsibility.
In February, militants affiliated with Daesh killed six employees of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and took two as hostages in northern Jawzjan province.
Last year in August, the Taliban abducted two foreign professors of the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF).
In a video message released by the Taliban in January, the U.S. citizen Kevin King and Australian citizen Tim Weeks could be seen appealing to the U.S. government to engage in talks with the Taliban for their release.
