6.4 magnitude quake strikes near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula
Quake hits area 89 miles south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

A powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the North Pacific Ocean off the Kamchatka region Thursday in Russia's Far East, according to the Unified Geophysical Service (UGS) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
The quake occurred at 12.42 am local time (1242GMT) at a depth of 52 kilometers (32 miles), it said on Telegram.
It noted that the epicenter was 143 kilometers (89 miles) south of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the region's administrative center.
Authorities have not reported damage or casualties.
