Group of 9 prisoners attack guards using homemade tools at correctional institution belonging to Tajik Justice Ministry, state media reports
ISTANBUL
Three inmates were killed and as many others were seriously injured during a prisoner riot in Tajikistan, state media reported on Monday.
A group of nine prisoners at a correctional institution belonging to the country's Justice Ministry attacked guards using homemade tools, Tajik state news agency Khovar reported, citing the public relations center of the ministry's main directorate for the execution of criminal punishments.
It said that three employees of the facility received serious injuries after being attacked by the group of inmates, who then tried to kill the guards and escape.
It further said that the guards were forced to use firearms against the group of inmates, as a result of which three of them were "neutralized" while the others were detained.
It went on to say that those injured received timely medical care and that their health condition was assessed as normal.
The facility's security and protection system has been fully restored, it added.
