ISLAMABAD

At least one person was killed and three others, including an army official, were injured in an explosion in northern Pakistan on Thursday when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb.

A vehicle of the military engineering and construction organization, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Tangir Boshidas Road area of Chilas, the Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department said in a statement.

"As a result of the explosion, a local civilian driver was martyred, while three individuals, including a major, sustained minor injuries," the statement said.

Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search and combing operation.

On Wednesday, at least four policemen were killed, and a deputy superintendent of police was injured during a militant attack in the Dera Ismail Khan area of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
