UNITED NATIONS
The UN General Assembly elected on Tuesday 14 new members to the UN Human Rights Council.
The UN General Assembly filled 14 vacant seats for a three-year term on the 47-member council electing China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the UK, France, Cuba, Vietnam, Namibia, Algeria, Maldives, Mexico, Tunisia, South Africa and Macedonia.
China, Russia and Saudi Arabia had been protested earlier as what independent human rights groups say the countries do not suit to serve on the world rights watchdog.
