ISTANBUL
Ahmed al-Jabra, Chairman of the Syrian National Council for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces (SNCORF), stated that the international community's silence against Assad's massacres opens the way for the Assad regime's use of chemical weapons.
In a statement made to journalists in Istanbul, Jabra said that the Syrian people and leaders of SNCORF want a decisive intervention in Syria by the international community to stop the mass killings and sufferings experienced by the Syrian people. He noted it is impossible to stop the Syrian people's suffering unless the international community prevents the Assad regime from using heavy weaponry.
Asking for the prohibition of fighter jets, missiles and artilleries, the elimination of chemical weapons and the trial of those who commanded chemical attacks across Syria, principally in the Ghouta attack, Jabra expressed that these steps can be taken in accordance with Article 7 of the UN Charter.
Jabra stated that this will be the first step in the reconstruction of Syria.
Summarizing the steps to be taken as "the prevention of extremism, the war on terror, building a democratic regime and the reconstruction of Syria," Jabra said there is still an opportunity to draw the route for stability and peace in Syria.
Referring to the death toll exceeding 100 thousand people, Jabra said silence on the massacres opens the way for more violent killings by the regime. Last month the regime conducted a chemical attack on Ghouta suburbs of Damascus, killing mostly women and children.
"Humanity was lost in Syria thanks to the hesitance of some parliaments and the inability of the UN," said Jabra.
