BETHLEHEM (AA) - Hundreds of Jewish settlers stormed a village in the West Bank town of Bethlehem early Friday to celebrate the festival of Sukkot.
Eyewitnesses said that settlers, backed by army forces, stormed the Solomon’s Pools area in al-Khader village and performed their religious rituals.
Israeli forces closed the area to Palestinians on the ground of “providing protection” to settlers.
The storming came shortly after a Jewish religious seminary called on settlers to storm the Solomon’s Pools area.
The Solomon’s pools consist of three open cisterns, each a rectilinear pool with a 6 metres (20 ft) drop to the next, fed from an underground spring.
The pools have played a significant role in the area's water supply for centuries.
