ANKARA
Military operations along the line of contact between Azerbaijan and Armenia have stopped, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry issued a statement stating operations were halted after an agreement signed by the two sides.
Azerbaijan had issued a statement on Sunday saying that the country had “unilaterally suspended” their counter-attacks.
Baku reclaimed land occupied by Armenia during several days of fighting last weekend, which saw dozens of Azerbaijani soldiers martyred.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said that its army had launched the operations in the Agdere, Terter, Agdam, Hocavend and Fuzuli regions to protect civilian lives.
Pro-Armenian militia have occupied Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region since 1993.
Three UN Security Council Resolutions (853, 874 and 884) and United Nations General Assembly Resolutions 19/13 and 57/298 refer to Karabakh as being part of Azerbaijan.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe refers to the territory as being occupied by Armenian forces.
