White House says Nvidia can’t sell its most advanced AI chip to China

ISTANBUL

The US will not allow Nvidia to sell its most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chip to China for the time being, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday.

"As for the most advanced chips, the ‘Blackwell’ chip, that's not something we're interested in selling to China at this time," she said during a press briefing.

Leavitt said that US President Donald Trump is very clear in his stance on this issue.

Her comments followed remarks made by Trump on Sunday that the most cutting-edge chips produced by the most valuable corporation in the world would only be available to US businesses and barred from sale to China and other nations.

Since Trump said in August that he would permit sales of a reduced-scale Blackwell chip to China, questions have been raised about whether he would permit such shipments.

During their summit in South Korea last week, Trump suggested he could bring up the chips with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but he later stated that the subject was not brought up.
