US to begin training Ukrainians on Patriot defense system as soon as next week

WASHINGTON
The US will begin training Ukrainian forces on the Patriot air defense system as soon as next week, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
"The training will prepare approximately 90 to 100 Ukrainian soldiers to operate, maintain and sustain the defensive system over a training course expected to last several months," Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters.
The training will take place at the Fort Sill military base in the US state of Oklahoma.
On Dec. 21, US President Joe Biden announced a $1.85 billion military aid package for Ukraine, including the Patriot missile defense system.
The announcement came during a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
