US Senate passes resolution to repeal Trump tariffs on Canada
Resolution passed in 51-48 vote, with 4 Republicans joining all Senate Democrats

WASHINGTON
The US Senate passed a resolution Wednesday aimed at blocking President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on Canada.
In a 51-48 vote, the upper chamber of Congress passed S. J. Res. 37, a joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Canada.
Four Republican Senators -- Rand Paul, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Mitch McConnell -- voted for the measure.
The voting came hours after Trump announced that he would impose a 10% tariff on all imports and levy even higher rates on imports from the European Union, China, Vietnam and Japan.
Earlier, Trump urged the four senators to vote against the resolution, arguing that the those tariffs are needed because Canada is not doing enough to halt fentanyl and other illegal drugs from coming across the northern border.
"The Senate Bill is just a ploy of the Dems to show and expose the weakness of certain Republicans, namely these four, in that it is not going anywhere because the House will never approve it and I, as your President, will never sign it," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
