US: Republican conv. day 2 ends with 'No Islam' shouts

Washington DC

WASHINGTON

The second day of the Republican National Convention closed on a low-note with chants of “No Islam!” clouding the closing prayer, which was led by a Muslim-American.

Sajid Tarar, a Baltimore-area resident and founder of American Muslims for Trump, invoked the name of Prophet Muhammad on Tuesday night before calling on convention attendees to pray together “to get our country back”.

"As Americans it is our obligation to elect a leader who will guide us with justice, equality, and, most importantly, integrity," he said.

Not long after his invocation began, an audience member began shouting remarks that were not immediately distinguishable. But the Hill reported that the individual was shouting, “This is an abomination!”

Other Donald Trump supporters reportedly shut him down and asked him to leave.

Early in his campaign, Trump proposed a controversial plan to bar Muslims entry to the U.S., alienating many Muslim-Americans.

He later tweaked the plan, calling for “extreme vetting” of individuals coming from places with a history of terror.
