US-Israeli attack hits irradiation sterilization facility in central Iran
Authorities say facility in Isfahan province damaged but no radiation contamination reported
ISTANBUL
A US-Israeli attack hit an irradiation sterilization facility in central Iran, causing “significant damage,” Iranian authorities said Sunday.
Iran’s ISNA News Agency said the strike hit a gamma irradiation sterilization center in Isfahan Province on Saturday.
According to the National Center for Nuclear Safety Systems, the facility was targeted by air and missile attacks carried out by the US and Israel.
The facility sustained heavy damage, the agency said, adding that no radiation contamination has so far been reported in the surrounding area.
Regional escalation flared up since Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and injuring over 10,000 others, according to Iranian authorities.
Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
