WASHINGTON

FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday that siblings have been indicted in connection with placing an improvised explosive device at MacDill Air Force Base, which houses the headquarters of US Central Command.

“A brother and sister have now been indicted. One is in custody for accessory and evidence tampering and the primary suspect is charged with explosives offenses and is currently in China,” Patel wrote on US social media company X.

“This FBI, working with our partners, will continue pursuing all those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice, no matter where they are,” he added.

Fox News said Alen Zheng, the main suspect, is accused of “damage to government property by fire or explosion” and possessing an unregistered destructive device, while Ann Mary Zheng allegedly sought to tamper with evidence tied to the case.

The report said the device was discovered March 16 near the base, prompting a law enforcement response.

MacDill Air Force Base hosts the headquarters of US Central Command and US Special Operations Command, which are currently involved in the US-Israeli war against Iran.
