US: House Democrats campaign arm reports hack

A U.S. organization that supports Democrats running for office confirmed Friday its computer system has been compromised, only a week after a long-running cyber-attack on Democratic convention staff resulted in a politically damaging leak.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee "takes this matter very seriously", the group said in a statement.

"With the assistance of leading experts we have taken and are continuing to take steps to enhance the security of our network in the face of these recent events," it said.

"We are cooperating with the federal law enforcement with respect to their ongoing investigation," the statement added.

A week ago, email correspondence of Democratic National Committee staff was leaked online, with the committee confirming it had been the target of months-long cyber-spying activity.

A number of security firms claimed they had evidence the attack was carried out by Russian hacker groups. Moscow has denied involvement.
