The US state of Georgia expects to finish vote counting for the 2020 White House race by Thursday, according to a top electoral official.
Gabriel Sterling, the state's voting system implementation manager, told reporters the amount of votes left to be counted is around 60,000.
"The anticipation is we will continue to go through the process through the day and into the evening if necessary," Sterling said. "We anticipate getting through this process today.”
Most of the remaining ballots are from Fulton County, Chatham County, Clayton County, and Gwinnett County -- representing 43,065 uncounted votes. Democratic challenger Joe Biden has so far made a strong showing in those areas.
The race in Georgia is still too close to call two days after Election Day, with President Donald Trump leading Biden by less than 19,000 votes.
After declaring a premature victory in the state, the Trump campaign filed suit in Georgia to halt vote counting.
Nevada is also expected to complete its vote count Thursday. Biden leads there by more than 8,000 votes.
As the count continues in key states like Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, and North Carolina, Biden is currently six Electoral College votes short of the 270 needed to claim victory, according to The Associated Press.
Elections were held for president, vice president, 35 of 100 senators, and all 435 members in the House of Representatives.Anadolu Agency website contains only a portion of the news stories offered to subscribers in the AA News Broadcasting System (HAS), and in summarized form.
