US CENTCOM says 4th service member killed in action
Fourth US service member succumbs to wounds sustained during Iran’s initial attacks
ISTANBUL
US Central Command said on Monday that a fourth US service member has been killed in action as US-Israeli joint attacks enter their third day.
“As of 7:30 a.m. ET (1230 GMT), March 2, four US service members have been killed in action. The fourth service member, who was seriously wounded during Iran’s initial attacks, eventually succumbed to their injuries,” CENTCOM said.
The statement added that a response effort is ongoing and that the identities of the service members will be withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin are notified.
CENTCOM said Sunday that three US service members had been killed and five were seriously wounded since the start of the US-Israeli joint attacks against Iran.
The casualties were announced as the US-Israeli operation entered its third day.
The strikes, launched Saturday, killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting several Gulf countries, mainly US military bases in the region.
