Trump's national security team set up at least 20 Signal app groups: Report

WASHINGTON

White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz’s team routinely used the encrypted Signal messaging app to coordinate official government work on key national security issues, including Ukraine, China, the Gaza Strip and Middle East policy, according to a report.

Politico, citing four sources who were personally added to the Signal chats, reported that the Trump administration’s national security team relied on the app more extensively than previously reported. Two sources said they were aware of at least 20 chat groups, and all confirmed that sensitive information was discussed.

The National Security Council did not immediately comment on the report.

It came after a report last week by Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, that he had been mistakenly added to a confidential Signal chat about plans for an attack on Houthi targets in Yemen on March 13 after receiving a connection request from an account bearing Waltz's name two days prior.
