Trump classified documents trial set for Aug. 14

NEW YORK

Former US President Donald Trump's trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 14 on 37 counts related to his alleged retention of classified government documents, a judge announced Tuesday.

Judge Aileen Cannon in the state of Florida ordered that pre-trial motions be filed by July 24.

The initial trial date might change as Trump's attorneys are expected to request a delay, according to the media reports.

Special Counsel Jack Smith said Trump’s trial could be completed in as little as 21 days.

Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Twice-indicted Trump became the first former US president to face federal charges.

He also faces state charges related to his business dealings in New York.
