WASHINGTON

US President Donald Trump called Wednesday for federal prosecutors to charge billionaire philanthropist George Soros and one of his sons with racketeering.

"George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America. We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more, never giving it so much as a chance to 'BREATHE,' and be FREE," he said on American social media platform Truth Social

"Soros, and his group of psychopaths, have caused great damage to our Country! That includes his Crazy, West Coast friends. Be careful, we’re watching you!" he added.

The president did not specify which son should face prosecution, but Soros in 2023 gave control of his multibillion-dollar Open Society Foundations to Alex Soros. Also unclear is to which "friends" Trump was referring.

RICO, or Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, is one of the government's most powerful tools to crack down on organized crime. It was central to the effort to break up the American mafia by allowing prosecutors to tie together apparently unrelated crimes that were being conducted as part of a criminal endeavor.
