Trump appoints Bernie Navarro as US ambassador to Peru

ISTANBUL

US President Donald Trump announced the appointment of Bernie Navarro as the country’s next ambassador to Peru on Thursday, citing his experience in finance, trade and education.

“Bernie is a Highly Respected Leader in Real Estate Finance and Economic Recovery,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform, highlighting Navarro’s service as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Miami Dade College, the largest community college in the US.

Trump said Navarro’s academic background — a degree in international finance from the University of Miami and a graduate degree in government from Harvard — positions him well for advancing US interests in Peru.

Navarro is expected to prioritize bilateral cooperation in economic development, trade relations and education.
