Trump administration cuts $101M in diversity training grants, contracts worth more than $850M
Education Department terminates 29 diversity grants as part of broader efficiency push

ISTANBUL
The US Education Department terminated 29 diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training grants totaling $101 million, along with contracts worth $881 million, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced on X Monday.
One canceled program aimed to train teachers to help students “understand and interrogate the complex histories involved in oppression” and recognize “areas of privilege and power,” the agency noted.
The move follows President Donald Trump’s executive orders targeting DEI initiatives, particularly in the military, which he claims deteriorated under his predecessor, Joe Biden.
The Education Department also ended 89 contracts worth $881 million, including a $1.5 million deal for a contractor to “observe mailing and clerical operations” at a mail center.
Trump tasked Elon Musk, head of the DOGE, with auditing the Pentagon and Education Department to uncover “billions, hundreds of millions of dollars of fraud and abuse.”
