WASHINGTON

Former US President Donald Trump and his two eldest children -- Donald Trump, Jr. and Ivanka Trump -- have been subpoenaed by New York Attorney General Letitia James in a case surrounding their family's business practices.

The Trumps were recently subpoenaed, but multiple reports on the legal development did not specify when the legal documents were issued, but the Associated Press reported they were made public on Monday.

Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump have both refused to comply with the subpoenas, ABC News reported.

James' years-long civil investigation into the Trump organization centers on how it has valued assets it holds, and whether it misled tax officials and banks about their worth. At issue is whether the organization ramped up its property valuations when dealing with banks to receive more favorable loans, and minimized their worth when reporting to tax officials.

The Washington Post newspaper reported last month that James is seeking the former president's testimony during a deposition originally sought for Jan. 7. Trump later sued James in federal court in a bid to thwart her office's investigation.

The case, which alleges that James' investigation is politically-motivated, has yet to be resolved. James dismissed the suit in a statement, saying it is part of long-standing efforts by the Trump organization to drag-out the investigation.

"Neither Mr. Trump nor the Trump Organization get to dictate if and where they will answer for their actions. Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law, not even someone with the name Trump,” she said.

The state attorney general's probe is one of two Trump and his organization are facing in New York with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office separately carrying out a criminal investigation into Trump's business practices.
