Top US Democrat requests classified briefing on Middle East situation
Chuck Schumer says all senators 'concerned' about ‘safety of US troops and citizens and America's interests around the world’

WASHINGTON
US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Wednesday he requested a classified briefing from the Trump administration to be informed about the unfolding situation between Israel and Iran.
"As the conflict in the Middle East continues, all of us are concerned for the safety of US troops and citizens and America's interests around the world.
"For the information of my colleagues, I have requested a classified briefing on the situation in the Middle East, and I believe we will get one soon," Schumer said from the Senate floor.
President Donald Trump continued to hold the door open Wednesday to the US joining Israel's attacks against Iran, saying his patience with Tehran has "already run out. That's why we're doing what we're doing."
Regional tensions have escalated since Friday, when Israel launched airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.
