A shooting Monday outside the Consulate General of Honduras near Atlanta, Georgia left one person dead, said Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina.

"We regret the tragedy," Reina told reporters, adding the victim was the security guard, who is a Mexican national.

One person was also injured during the attack after a suspect opened fire in the parking lot of the consulate, which is located in the city of Doraville, about 16 miles (25.7 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta.

The minister said the suspect, who is believed to be Honduran, tried to enter the consulate building with a weapon before the shooting.

The suspect was taken into custody, Reina said, adding they are in constant contact with the police.
