Indonesia suspends participation in Board of Peace initiative
Foreign minister cites rising Middle East tensions, conflict with Iran as reason for halting discussions, say media reports

Indonesia has suspended all discussions on the Board of Peace initiative launched by US President Donald Trump, citing the military escalation in the Middle East, media reports said Friday.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said the decision was taken in response to the latest developments in the region, according to Middle East Monitor.
He said the escalation had directly affected the foreign policy priorities of countries involved in the initiative.
Sugiono explained that international attention had shifted toward the consequences of the conflict involving Iran.
He added that Indonesia would carry out intensive consultations with partners in the Gulf region, which he said are directly affected by the ongoing attacks and rising tensions.
Indonesia’s participation in the initiative has also faced criticism from domestic political and religious groups.
Critics argue that joining a council led by the Trump administration could undermine Indonesia’s longstanding position supporting the Palestinian cause.
In the same context, the Indonesian Ulema Council called for an immediate withdrawal from the initiative.
The council said the body lacks effectiveness while military operations in the region continue.
The decision to suspend participation comes as regional tensions remain high and diplomatic discussions surrounding the initiative face increasing scrutiny, Middle East Monitor reported.
