WASHINGTON

Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenage climate activist who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in protest of inadequate government action on climate change, rallied hundreds of activists at the White House Friday demanding U.S. action.

In so doing, Thunberg brought her message directly to U.S. President Donald Trump who has at times dismissed climate change as a Chinese hoax, and at others cast doubt on whether human activity bears any impact on escalating climate disasters.

Those who gathered across the street from the executive mansion held signs reading "Feel the Thunberg," a reference to both the activist and the natural weather phenomenon, and "Unite Behind the Science."

The vast majority of scientists are in consensus that human-caused carbon emissions are raising global temperatures, and thereby increasing natural disasters in both power and frequency.

Thunberg's "Fridays for Future" protests, which began in her native Sweden but have since become a global phenomenon, has sought to bring world governments into full compliance with the Paris Climate Accord, which Trump has sought to formally leave shortly after he came to office in 2017.
